- Source_collection_description
- The Archives Project was formed in 1977 by Kevin Rafferty (1947-2020); Pierce Rafferty and Stewart M. Crone (1952-2018) to produce a film on the history of propaganda using U.S. federal government archives. Crone left the group and Jayne Loader became a member. The film project morphed into what became THE ATOMIC CAFÉ (1982), a feature film that garnered wide distribution. Donated by Pierce Rafferty and Jayne Loader to Prelinger Archives, this collection contains films, outtakes and miscellaneous footage collected during the film's production. Many of the films are U.S. government productions; some excerpts are missing because they were included in the finished film., Founded in New York City's Meatpacking District in 1984 by Pierce Rafferty and Margaret Crimmins, Petrified Films held a large collection of moving images, slidefilms and photographs. Much of its moving image collection consisted of 35mm stock footage drawn from studio-made and independently produced feature films and television programs. The 35mm footage library passed through a number of hands and is now partially owned by the nonprofit Internet Archive, which holds rights to much of this material and offers it online for free downloading and reuse.
